Only 21% of Lotus Domino Customers Surveyed Are Planning to Deploy IBM Workplace

New Survey of IBM Lotus Notes/Domino Customers Reveals Attitudes About IBM Notes/Domino and Migration Plans to IBM Workplace

PALO ALTO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 24, 2005 -- An independent survey conducted by The Radicati Group, Inc. in Q2 2005 reveals attitudes and procurement plans of current IBM Lotus Notes/Domino customers. The whitepaper, "A Survey of IBM Lotus Messaging Customers," is available as a free download at

The survey shows that 25% of Domino customers still don't understand the new Workplace strategy, despite IBM's efforts over the past two years to explain it. Only 21% have made plans to deploy Workplace. The rest have decided not to migrate to Workplace or are still evaluating their options.

For those customers that have decided not to deploy IBM Workplace, 60% indicated they will stick with Lotus Domino for as long as possible, while another 20% indicated plans to migrate to competitive products such as Microsoft Exchange or Novell GroupWise.

Based on these findings, The Radicati Group projects IBM Lotus' market share in the messaging space will continue to erode significantly in the next four years. Today, Lotus Domino has a 23% market share in the corporate messaging software market, compared to Microsoft Exchange's 33%.
