Only 4 Days Left: Submit Your Eco-Idea to Sony and See It Brought to Life

There are only four days left for you to submit your ideas to Sony and WWF on how to help sustain our planet's resources. Your concepts will be judged by leading technology experts and if chosen you could work with Sony to bring your idea to life. Concepts must be submitted before midnight on 13 December.

So far, the online community platform Open Planet Ideas, has received over 300 innovative responses to its challenge brief to find new ways to use exisiting technology to help preserve our planet's natural resources.

Now, as the crowd-sourcing project's concepting phase enters its final stages, Sony wants your ideas to be submitted before the Open Planet Ideas community and the expert panel decide which idea could be 'brought to life' with the help of Sony's R&D team. The panel consists of a crack team of nine experts which is made up of leading figureheads from Sony, WWF and design consultancy IDEO. 

Some of the innovative ideas submitted by the community include GreenpatH which uses GPS technology to find users the most sustainable journey, giving them a choice of travel options and information on how to save CO2 emissions, money, or even burn calories.

Shopaholics have also been given the chance to feel less guilty about their purchases with the help of the Sustainable shopper app, which allows people to use their mobiles to scan barcodes before the buy to find out if a product is organic, and how much fuel was used to transport it.

Speaking of the project, Emily Nicoll, general manager of environmental communications, Sony Europe said: "We have been overwhelmed with the response to the project so far and have seen some fantastic ideas submitted by the online community. As well as sharing their ideas, users have been applauding and building upon each other's concepts, working together to come up with some really exciting ways of tackling some of the biggest issues facing our planet today.
