Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Media Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO, MEDIA ADVISORY--(Marketwire - Oct. 15, 2008) - The Ontario Coalition for Social Justice (OCSJ) will commemorate
the International Day to Eradicate Poverty on October 17th
with a media conference
at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17
in the media studio at Queen's Park.

Josephine Grey, Co-Chair of the OCSJ

John Rae, 1st Vice-President of Alliance for Equality of Blind Canadians

Chalo Barrueta, Treasurer of Low Income Families Together

will each explain why it is vital that:

1) Canada and Ontario act responsibly with other countries to reduce poverty, and so join countries like those in the European Union in taking initiatives to help their populations, when people are especially vulnerable to economic hardships;

2) the new Federal Government develop a national poverty reduction strategy consistent with the growing number of provinces which have adopted and are developing plans to reduce poverty in Canada; and

3) the Ontario Government proceed with announcing and then implementing its Poverty Reduction Strategy without delay, and in fact, not delay it in these uncertain economic times when it's even more important to help persons who are in need.
