Ontario "A Slaughterhouse" for Insurance Companies

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 16, 2011) - "Ontario is a slaughterhouse for insurance companies," says Dr. Richard Buchanan, a prominent Ontario chiropractor and long-time health care practitioner. Where in the past he was consulted by insurance claimants seeking consultation, Buchanan is now the claimant in a vehicular accident wherein he was struck by a speeding limousine while walking out of Toronto's Pearson International airport.

A qualified chiropractor living in Mississauga, Ontario, Buchanan is familiar with the insurance process, and is now a victim of it. A senior citizen with a 35-year history in the chiropractic profession, Buchanan is fighting to receive fair compensation from his insurance company, Chubb Insurance, for not settling his claim. Buchanan says that, in spite of overwhelming evidence to the contrary, he has not been able to receive reparations, even after a three-year long exhaustive investigation.

On June 22, 2008, Buchanan was returning from the United States. While walking out of Pearson International Airport, he was hit by a limousine travelling at an estimated 40 kilometres-an-hour and owned by the Toronto-based limousine company Rosedale Livery Limited. Buchanan sustained serious injuries, including crushed knees, chest and left shoulder injuries.

Since then, he has had to undergo six surgeries over the past three years. Buchanan and his legal team are working to receive fair compensation for his injuries. Over the last three years, Buchanan has been examined by some of the top orthopedic surgeons, psychologists, physiologists and rehabilitation specialists in the province, and has corroborated medical documentation proving all injuries sustained and on-going debilitation.

Buchanan claims that his files were reviewed by unqualified assessors and that only a small portion of his mounting costs since 2008 have been covered during the process.

Buchanan believes that the insurance industry is suffering from a number of problems that cause widespread problems for accident victims. "The province is a slaughterhouse for insurance companies. All cases that involve Ontario drivers fall under no-fault insurance and places the victims at fault," said Buchanan.
