Ontario CAs to Prepare 10,000 Free Tax Returns

Tax clinics running across Ontario during March

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - March 1, 2007) -

Attention News/ Business Editors

The annual Free CA Tax Clinics will once again be offered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario at various times and locations across the province. Chartered Accountants (CAs) will step up for low-income residents in their communities by preparing tax returns for those in low-income brackets until March 31, 2007.

The program is an ongoing collaboration between over 200 community service groups that host the clinics, and more than 1,400 volunteer Chartered Accountants and CA students who complete the returns free of charge. Designed to serve low-income people by preparing tax returns, the Free CA Tax Clinics help them receive much-needed tax credits and refunds. Since the program was initiated, tens of thousands of Ontarians have benefited from the volunteer tax-time help of the CAs.

The Free CA Tax Clinics are open to those with total gross annual household incomes of up to $22,500 with dependents and $15,000 with no dependents. The Clinics will run across most of the province until March 31, 2007. For more information on who qualifies, or to find out where the Clinics are being held, either within or outside the GTA, call the Institute at 416-962-1841, ext. 462 or toll-free at 1-800-387-0735, ext. 462. Information about clinics and their locations across the province is also available on the Institute website at:

"The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario has been co-ordinating this valuable program since 1969," said Donna Genova, Associate Director, Member Services at the Institute. "Our members find it gratifying to be able to give something back to the communities where they live and work."

People who meet the requirements, and have booked appointments at a clinic, are asked to bring a copy of their last filed return, notice of assessment, social insurance number and all tax information slips. Tax returns will be completed on site at the clinic.
