Ontario CPAs Hold Chartered for Finance Conference

University students to learn CPA designation opens doors on Bay Street

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Jan. 9, 2014) - On Friday January 10, over 200 lucky university students will gather in Toronto to learn what's been a not-so-well-kept secret - the CPA designation can be a key to entering the world of finance. Whether it's investment banking, corporate finance, consulting, private equity and venture capital, or asset and wealth management, the doors are always open for Chartered Professional Accountants.

"We've invited a range of CPAs in finance to talk about their experiences, career paths and how their CPA training prepared them for the world of finance," said Sheetal Gupta, CPA, CA, Associate Director of Career Information with CPA Ontario. "Naturally, when people think of CPAs, they tend to think of accounting firms first - and CPAs are very prominent in Canada's accounting profession - but CPAs also hold major positions in banking, consulting and other financial organizations."

This exclusive conference at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel will give selected delegates the full scoop on how CPAs are involved in all aspects of finance and how that trend is sure to increase in the future as uncertain economic times and increasing complexity makes having a top-level background in accounting even more crucial to achieving success, both personal and organizational.

This year's event features two keynote speakers who play important roles in the world of finance:

Joanne Ferstman, CPA, CA

  • Corporate Director
  • Former President & CEO of Dundee Capital Markets Inc.
  • Former Vice Chair, EVP & CFO of DundeeWealth Inc.

Kurt Rosentreter, CPA, CA, CFP, CLU, TEP, FMA, CIMA, FCSI, CIM
