Ontario Economic Summit Focuses on Growing Ontario Economy

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 28, 2009) - Over 200 leaders from across the province will come together in Niagara-on-the-Lake for the 2009 Ontario Economic Summit (OES) to discuss ways in which Ontario can be readied for stronger economic recovery.

The leaders of business, labour, academia, non-governmental organizations and government will examine topics including infrastructure priorities, investment and tourism opportunities for Ontario, and how green and creative disciplines can help Ontario return to prosperous times.

The sixth annual OES, co-chaired by David Dodge, Former Governor of the Bank of Canada and Robert Prichard, President and CEO of Metrolinx, is a strategic initiative of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) that stimulates discussion and collaborative action among its participants.

Keynote addresses will be provided by:

  • Premier Dalton McGuinty
  • Tim Hudak, Leader of the Official Opposition
  • U.S. Consul General Kevin M. Johnson
  • Scotiabank Chief Economist Warren Jestin
  • Lyn Heward of Cirque du Soleil
  • Executive Chairman of Loblaw Companies Ltd. Galen G. Weston
  • President and CEO of World Wildlife Fund Canada Gerald Butts
  • Australian branding expert Alex Dobrochodow

The OES will begin with an evening to honour the first inductee into the Ontario Visionaries, a distinguished society of the province's greatest legacy builders, Premier William G. Davis. Tributes to Premier Davis will be provided by Hon. Jim Bradley, John Tory, Deputy Leader of the PC Party of Ontario Christine Elliot, Hon. Ernie Eves, Isabel Bassett and Niagara College President Dan Patterson.
