Ontario Energy Association Welcomes the Merger of the OPA and IESO

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 18, 2012) - The Ontario Energy Association (OEA) welcomes the government's announcement of a proposed merger between the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) and the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO). Such a step could bring additional clarity and efficiency to the sector.

"The OEA and its members would be pleased to see changes that would improve the energy system for customers across the province, including elimination of duplication," said Elise Herzig, President and CEO, OEA. "The OPA and the IESO both perform many important functions in the energy sector, and we hope that any changes will be made carefully and in consultation with our members, who deliver energy services to all Ontarians, every day."

About the OEA

The OEA is Ontario's energy voice and has more than 150 corporate members that represent the full diversity of the energy industry in Ontario - power producers, firms that transport, transmit and deliver natural gas and electricity, marketers and retailers, manufacturers, contractors, service providers, and energy consultants.
