8th BIENNIAL CONVENTION - SHERATON CENTRE (GRAND BALLROOM) 123 QUEEN STREET WEST, TORONTO - MONDAY NOVEMBER 21, 9:30 A.M. - FRIDAY NOVEMBER 25, 12:OO NOON Attention: Assignment Editor, Media Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 16, 2005) - The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) speaks for 700,000 organized workers in the province and provides its affiliated labour councils and local unions with services in communications, education, health care, health & safety, research, legislative and political action, human rights, women's rights, solidarity & pride and workers' compensation.

Every two years the OFL holds its Convention to set policy as Ontario's central 'House of Labour'. This Convention will debate action plans and policies on Public-Private-Partnerships, Pensions, Equality, Health Care and Apprenticeship.

During the week of Convention guest speakers will address delegates on priority items that affect and influence policies in the labour movement. Speakers include: John Cartwright, President, Toronto & York Region Labour Council; David Miller, Mayor of Toronto; Jack Layton, Leader, New Democratic Party of Canada; Howard Hampton, Ontario New Democratic Party Leader; Jackie Chic, Executive Director, Income Security Advocacy Centre; Jose LaLuz, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees; Ken Georgetti, Canadian Labour Congress President; Kikélola Roach, Barrister, Solicitor & Notary.

Convention proceedings are open to the media. A media badge and Convention kit will be issued to representatives of media outlets upon registration at the Media Room adjacent to the Convention Hall. The Media Room is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. for as long as required.

Media tables will be located beside the Convention stage. Reporters are asked to wear their media badges while on the Convention floor. A TV platform will be located near the stage and audio feeds will be available in both the Media Room and in the Convention Hall at the media tables.

Executive Officers of the OFL will be available for interviews both on and off the Convention floor upon request.
