Ontario Museums Celebrate May 18 International Museum Day

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 17, 2012) - In recognition of International Museum Day (IMD), celebrated worldwide on Friday May 18, 2012, the ONTARIO MUSEUM ASSOCIATION (OMA) is pleased to highlight the role of museums as catalysts to discovery and innovation in Ontario. Established in 1977 by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), this year the museum community celebrates the 35th anniversary of International Museum Day, with more than 30,000 museums in 100 countries - including 650 Ontario museums, art galleries and heritage sites -- offering special activities to mark the occasion. Ontario museums welcome 19 million visitors each year. The Ontario Museum Association and its museum members invite you to experience their hands-on displays, exciting exhibits, and visitor-focused interactive activities!

From War of 1812, exploring heritage, art and design, celebrating diversity and focus on family, Ontario museums await you!

WAR OF 1812: This year museums are commemorating the War of 1812 Bicentennial marking 200 years of peace. From historical reenactments and military demonstrations to commemorative exhibits, museums and historic sites are paying tribute to the fallen soldiers - their service, stories and sacrifices. Events this month include:
