Michael W. Sherman, BSc, DDS, MSc, MBA, of Sherman Orthodontics in Thornhill, Ontario, Canada, was elected President of the Great Lakes Association of Orthodontists (GLAO) at its Annual Meeting on October 12 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Founded in 1926, the Great Lakes Association of Orthodontists (GLAO) is one of eight constituent organizations that comprise the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO). The GLAO has more than 1300 members in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania (west of the Alleghenies) and the Canadian province of Ontario. The GLAO advocates on behalf of its members and promotes the advancement of the Specialty of Orthodontics.
Dr. Sherman received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Waterloo and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Toronto. He continued at the University of Manitoba for his Master of Science degree and orthodontic training, as well he attended Queen's University for his MBA. Dr. Sherman served the GLAO as Secretary-Treasurer for three years, Vice President, President-Elect, Delegate to the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) (since 2006), currently serves as the GLAO Representative to the AAO Council on Orthodontic Practice (since 2010), in addition to serving on multiple committees and task forces. In addition to being a published author and a public lecturer, Dr. Sherman is a Past President of the Ontario Association of Orthodontists and a member of both the American Association of Orthodontists as well as the Canadian Association of Orthodontists.
