Ontario, Quebec Review of Energy East Big Win for Canada: WWF

TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - November 21, 2014) - In response to the joint announcement by Ontario premier Kathleen Wynne and Québec premier Philippe Couillard that set out conditions that seek to reduce the environmental impacts of the Energy East pipeline, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Canada's President & CEO David Miller issued the following statement:

"WWF Canada is pleased to see that the governments of Ontario and Quebec are working together to address climate change, the biggest threat to the health of nature and our planet.

"The joint announcement shows that Ontario and Quebec acknowledge that the potential impacts of Energy East extend beyond climate change, and will accelerate the depletion of a globally important ecosystem that's home to endangered beluga whales and many other threatened species.

"In addition to placing increasing pressure on irreplaceable wildlife habitat, the Energy East project also opens the door to the potentially devastating impacts of pipeline and tanker spills, which are far too common."
