Ontario SPCA Adoption Blitz Finds Homes for 460 Cats Across the Province

NEWMARKET, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Aug. 30, 2016) - After nearing capacity to care for homeless cats, Ontario SPCA animal centres across the province found forever homes for 460 cats during a recent adoption blitz, which ended Sunday.

From Aug. 11-28, all adult cats were offered at a reduced adoption fee at participating animal centres with the goal of finding loving homes for as many as possible to reduce demands on centre capacities. The iAdopt Urgent Appeal adoption blitz saw an adoption increase of 67 per cent over the same period last year.

"We are thankful for everyone who adopted a cat during this blitz," says Tonya Martin, Director, Animal Centres & Humane Programming, Ontario SPCA. "These cats found their loving forever homes and we now have more space available to care for other homeless cats."

Despite the success of the adoption blitz, close to 200 cats are still up for adoption across the province. All cats are spayed or neutered, microchipped, come with a gift of six weeks of pet insurance and are up to date on their vaccinations.

"If you are able to welcome a cat into your family, there are still many in our care waiting to meet you," says Martin. "By adopting a cat, you can help ensure space becomes available for other animals in need."
