The Ontario SPCA and Brampton Animal Services Are Seeking the Public's Assistance Regarding an Act of Animal Cruelty in the Region of Peel

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Nov. 26, 2013) - The Ontario SPCA and Brampton Animal Services is seeking the public's assistance in a case involving a Beagle-type dog.

On November 11, 2013, an Officer from Brampton Animal Services responded to a call of a dog confined in a backyard on Hearthstone Court, in the Dixie Road and Howden Boulevard area, in the City of Brampton. On arrival, officers observed a small Beagle-type dog approximately two-years of age that appeared very frail and weak. Upon closer investigation, Officers discovered that the dog had an elastic band that had been tied tightly around its testicles, causing extreme pain and injury. The Brampton Animal Services Officer acted quickly and took the dog to Northtown Veterinary Hospital, where the dog underwent emergency surgery. Brampton Animal Service then contacted the Ontario SPCA and the two organizations began working closely in a joint investigation.

The beagle, now known as "Otis," was successfully treated, and was transported to the Ontario SPCA where he remains in custody and is doing well. When ready, Otis will be placed up for adoption. The Ontario SPCA recognizes and thanks both Brampton Animal Services and Northtown Veterinary Hospital for their great efforts in saving Otis.

The investigation is currently ongoing. Members of the public who have any information regarding this matter are asked to contact the Ontario SPCA at 1-888-668-7722 Ext. 359, Brampton Animal Services at 905-458-5800, or through Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. All calls are confidential.
