Ontario Trucking Association: National Trucking Week Rolls Out Sept. 18-24, 2005

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 19, 2005) - This week Canada's trucking industry is rolling out National Trucking Week 2005 which runs September 18 through 24.

National Trucking Week is held annually to spotlight the important contributions made by the 400,000 Canadians (over 200,000 in Ontario) who work in the industry. The week also serves as a platform for raising awareness of how to safely share the road with a truck and exciting career opportunities the industry has to offer.

"Grocery store shelves are stocked and the supplies we need for daily living are available when we need them, thanks to the country's safe and reliable trucking industry," says OTA President David Bradley. "During National Trucking Week we salute the men and women who form the backbone of the trucking industry. Without you the country would literally stop!"

"Each year members of the trucking industry and industry suppliers come up with a wide variety of ways to recognize truck drivers and other employees," says Bradley. "Trucking company executives have washed and fueled trucks for their drivers. Employees have enjoyed complimentary breakfasts and barbecues courtesy of their employers and all sorts of tokens of appreciation have been presented to employees. Truck stops have poured complimentary cups of coffee and offered slices of fresh pie to truck drivers."

Other companies have said thanks to their staff by running messages in special newspaper inserts produced by the Ontario Trucking Association to promote the event.

National Trucking Week is an annual event. The date is set each year by the Canadian Trucking Alliance in cooperation with the country's seven provincial trucking associations.

Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) is a business association representing motor carriers operating into, out of and within Ontario. The trucking industry is one of Ontario's largest employers. Trucks haul 90% of all consumer products and foodstuffs produced and consumed in the province and 80% of Ontario's trade with the United States. Founded in 1926, the association's membership comprises trucking companies of all sizes, shipping all types of commodities, from all regions of North America. OTA is a member of the Canadian Trucking Alliance.
