Ontario Trucking Association: Truckers Give Away Free Copies of Road Sharing Video During 'National Trucking Week'

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 18, 2005) - The truck drivers and member companies of the Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) want to help make Ontario roads safer by increasing community awareness of how all road users can better share the roads.

Starting at midnight on Sunday, September 18th, OTA will distribute FREE copies of a popular video called Sharing the Road with Trucks, to the first 1,000 people who call the association and request a copy.

This video giveaway program is being offered in conjunction with National Trucking Week, which takes place from September 18 - 24, 2005. Offer ends at midnight on Saturday, September 18 or after 1,000 copies have been given away. (-One copy of the video per Ontario household, while quantities last.) To request a copy of the free video, please call: OTA Communications at 416-249-7401, Ext. 301

"It's important that all motorists recognize that they can take steps to make the roads safer for everyone who uses them," said David Bradley, president of the Ontario Trucking Association.

National Trucking week is held to spotlight the important contributions made by the 400,000 Canadian men and women who keep the country's freight moving. The event is also an opportunity to promote road safety and road sharing techniques.

The 20-minute video uses live action and computer animated road-sharing scenarios to highlight key tips for road users.

"We recognize that 1,000 copies is a small quantity, but we hope that giving away a few at no cost will encourage road users to obtain a copy," said Bradley."

Look for more road sharing information by visiting OTA's website at www.ontruck.org (select 'Road Safety Outreach' from contents menu).
After the first 1,000 copies are distributed, copies of the video can be purchased for $9.99 each plus applicable taxes and delivery.

The Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) is a business association representing motor carriers operating into, out of and within Ontario. The trucking industry is one of Ontario's largest employers. Trucks haul 90% of all consumer products and foodstuffs produced and consumed in the province and 80% of Ontario's trade with the United States. Founded in 1926, the association's membership comprises trucking companies of all sizes, shipping all types of commodities, from all regions of North America. OTA is a member of the Canadian Trucking Alliance. The Globe & Mail has stated that "OTA and CTA have been among the most successful lobbyists in the land."
