Ontario's CPAs Announce "Rule the Tube" Winners

Entry from Richmond Hill Wins

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 4, 2014) - The winner of the fourth annual Rule the Tube CPA video competition has been announced: Vasiliki Belegrinis of Jean Vanier Catholic High School in Richmond Hill. Vasiliki receives $1,500 and kudos from the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario for her imaginative and exciting video.

Vasiliki Belegrinis took first place for "Keep Calm and CPA On" (available at

"I first heard about this competition when I was in grade 10 and instantly became inspired to be more involved. After becoming a Finalist in last year's competition, I was motivated and determined to compete again as a grade 12 student," said Vasiliki. "I gained valuable skills that I will carry for future opportunities. I was able to enhance my creativity by considering a multitude of factors that were essential to this project. I know this learning experience will help me along the way in becoming a CPA."

The other finalists were:

  • Scott Dunlop of Aurora's Dr G W Williams Secondary School for "Draw my Designation"

  • Nathan Li of Mississauga's The Woodlands Secondary School

Ontario post-secondary and high school students were given a chance to bring out their inner video auteur - whether it's Christopher Nolan serious or Will Ferrell funny - in the fourth Rule the Tube CPA video competition. The theme is "Why Chartered Professional Accountants Rule the World of Business" and the winning entry gets fame and glory in addition to the cash.

"We're giving students a chance to show-off their video-making skills and compete for cash, while at the same time they are learning about and promoting the CPA profession," said Sheetal Gupta, Associate Director, Career Information with the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario. "Choosing the three finalists was a challenge, but choosing a winner was even more difficult since each video had its own merits and uniqueness. We had an expert team of judges using robust criteria and were able to select one winner."

A big part of the contest was based on how well people promoted their video. The more views, likes and positive ratings received on YouTube, the better, although negative ratings and comments were not counted. Aside from $1,500 for the winner, each of the other finalists will receive $200.

The Rule the Tube video competition - just one more reason why Chartered Professional Accountants rule.
