Opanga Networks Fuels Development Efforts of Video Delivery Optimization Solutions With Additional Funding

Axtel Exec Joins Board, Opanga Poised for Growth

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - September 2, 2010) - Opanga Networks, the leading innovator of pragmatic video optimization solutions that efficiently pre-position high-quality content to any device, today announced the completion of a Series A investment round that brings its total investment to US$5.5M. This latest round was led by Axtel S.A.B. de C.V, a publicly traded telecommunications company, with participation from Opanga's existing investors. The new capital will help Opanga expand its operations, in addition to further funding the development of its NetRover™ suite of patented solutions, which help operators manage the overwhelming growth of video-based data traffic on their networks.

As part of the financing round, Opanga also announced that Iván Alonso Hernandez, executive director of Innovation and Technology at Axtel, has joined its Board of Directors. He joins existing board members that include C. James Judson, founding president and a former board member of Nextel International; Ed Salley, former executive with AT&T, AT&T Wireless, NorthStar Communications Group, and PRTM Management Consultant and Dave Gibbons, CEO and co-founder of Opanga. Advisory Board Members include Bill Owens, managing director of AEA Investors and former vice chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Larry Seifert, former executive vice president of AT&T Wireless Services; and Arlen Prentice, chairman and CEO of Kibble & Prentice.

"Opanga has demonstrated an innovative, yet pragmatic approach to combat the broadband industry's video capacity crisis," stated Mr. Hernandez. "I am delighted to join the Board of Directors, as I believe the company is well positioned to provide network operators and media companies with the tools necessary to drive revenue growth for wireless services in the future."

The company also announced the launch of a re-designed and expanded Web site, which was developed to help wireless operators, digital TV operators, and media companies better understand the benefits of Opanga's solutions to substantially reduce the negative impact video places on network performance while providing consumers with a far superior more consistent video experience.

"This is a very exciting time for the Opanga team," said Gibbons. "Based on feedback from our customer discussions, our solutions offer a truly unique way for operators to mitigate network congestion while providing consumers with much better video quality. The wireless industry has to look beyond streaming video for distribution technologies that fit the spectrum available. Simply put, our solutions enable smarter networks to deliver better video."

Opanga will be showcasing its latest NetRover products at CTIA Enterprise & Applications on Oct. 5-8 at booth #755.
