Open Government Talks Move to Nation's Capital

Canada Updating its Action Plan on Open Government

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 27, 2014) - Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat

Today, consultations on Canada's second Action Plan on Open Government continued in Ottawa with a public round table at the University of Ottawa. Treasury Board President Tony Clement launched the consultations in May to hear directly from Canadians about their ideas for the Government of Canada to focus its efforts toward increased openness and transparency.

Representatives from the City of Ottawa, Open Government enthusiasts, and citizens attended the event. Ongoing consultations, both online and in person, are designed to produce an Action Plan that will provide citizens with better data and information, and more opportunities to learn about and participate in government.

Canada's second Action Plan on Open Government will build on the successes of the first Action Plan, such as the Open Government Licence, the Open Government Portal (data.gc.ca) with over 190,000 data sets, and events like the CODE appathon, which encourage innovation and economic activity that can benefit Canadians.
