Open Government Talks Move to Waterloo Region

Canada Updating its Action Plan on Open Government

WATERLOO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - July 4, 2014) - Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat

Today, consultations on Canada's second Action Plan on Open Government touched down in Waterloo with an expert panel session held at Communitech, an entrepreneurial hub that supports tech companies at all stages of their growth and development. Peter Braid, Member of Parliament for Kitchener-Waterloo, met with experts from industry, government and academia as part of a series of consultations being held by the Government of Canada and following a similar session in Ottawa last week.

Treasury Board President Tony Clement launched the consultations in May to hear directly from Canadians about their ideas for increased openness and transparency in the federal government. The ongoing consultations, both on-line and in-person, are designed to produce an action plan that will provide citizens with better data and information, and more opportunities to learn about and participate in government.

Canada's second Action Plan on Open Government will build on the successes of the first Action Plan, such as the Open Government Licence, the Open Government Portal (www.data.gc.ca) with over 190,000 datasets and events like the CODE appathon, which encourage innovation and economic activity that can benefit Canadians.
