Open Invention Network Signs Indian Licensees and Quad One Technologies

Provides Linux-Based IP Protection for Companies and Their Customers

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 23, 2007 --Open Invention Network (OIN), the company formed to spur innovation and protect the Linux System, announced today it has signed Indian technology companies in conjunction with its tour of Indian technology centers. Two of the new licensees, and Quad One Technologies, have joined the growing list of companies that are leveraging OIN to ensure Linux-based, intellectual property protection for themselves and their end-user customers.

"We are pleased to have and Quad One Technologies become licensees of Open Invention Network's patents," said Jerry Rosenthal, chief executive officer of Open Invention Network. "Quad One Technologies and are examples of Indian companies that understand that the openness and collaborative culture of the Linux community is an engine for innovation. OIN continues to acquire intellectual property that protects Linux developers, distributors and users, today and years into the future."

Patents owned by Open Invention Network are available royalty-free to any company, institution or individual that agrees not to assert its patents against the Linux System. This enables companies to continue to make significant corporate and capital expenditure investments in Linux -- helping to fuel economic growth.

"We are committed to, and enthusiastically support, open source software products and communities," said Ken Fischer, chief executive officer of Pvt. Ltd. "We see a number of significant advantages in licensing OIN's patents. By becoming an OIN licensee, we join a growing number of open source community members that see the value derived from the protection that OIN provides to Linux developers and their end-user customers. It means that we at ClickforHelp can continue to focus on providing our customers with the IT solutions that enable our customers to build their businesses, increase efficiency and reduce their operational expenditures. Becoming an OIN licensee also means that we don't have to expend as many precious resources on intellectual property issues."

In less than a year, OIN has accumulated more than 100 strategic, worldwide patents and patent applications. These patents are available to all licensees as part of the patent commons that OIN is creating around, and in support of Linux. Through the accumulation of patents that may be used to shield the Linux environment, including users of Linux software, OIN has reduced the need for offers of protection from others.

This makes it economically attractive for companies that want to repackage, embed and use Linux to host specialized services or create complementary products. Additionally, it helps ensure the continuation of innovation that has benefited software vendors, customers, emerging markets and investors.
