GETTYSBURG, PA--(Marketwired - October 05, 2016) - Recently, OPEN MINDS founder and CEO, Monica Oss, presented the opening keynote at the Behavioral Health Value Based Payment Conference hosted by the New York State Office of Mental Health and Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, the Health Foundation for Western and Central New York, and the Managed Care Technical Assistance Center. The goal of the conference, held at the Albany Marriott, was to prepare community-based behavioral health organizations for success in a system moving towards value-based payment.
In her opening keynote, Health Care's Value-Based Environment: Strategies For Behavioral Health Organizations In New York, Ms. Oss provided state organizations with a blueprint to the new value-based payment model. She reviewed OPEN MINDS extensive inventory of the "possibilities" of new CBO roles with health plans, accountable care organizations (ACOs), health systems, and primary care programs -- with options such as subcapitated service delivery, specialized care coordination, management of acute episodes, consultation to acute care and primary care, preventing admissions and readmissions, and specialty primary care.
Along with this review of the possibilities for CBOs, Ms. Oss discussed the need for new business models and a health plan/ACO with sufficient volume for on-going sustainability. She outlined three key questions all leadership teams should ask when making these fundamental strategy decisions:
- What is your organization's "vertical strategy" to engage emerging consumer care coordination organizations and consolidation among purchasers?
- What is your "next generation" service line?
- How does your organization create that "next generation" service line and stay a market leader?
This session was open to all adult and child serving New York State behavioral health providers and was geared towards senior leadership and executive management staff.
