Opening Welcome and Rally by Treaty 8 First Nations To Mark Start of Hearings on Site C Dam

Smudge ceremony, drumming and presentation of local artifacts to take place December 9 at Pomeroy Hotel

TREATY 8 TERRITORY/FORT ST. JOHN, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Dec. 6, 2013) - Doig River, Halfway River, Prophet River, and West Moberly First Nations (collectively, "T8FNs") will be providing an opening welcome on the first day of the governments' joint review panel hearing on the morning of December 9, 2013. The opening welcome will be done in conjunction with the T8FNs' many partners and supporters and will include a smudge ceremony, drumming, and presentation of Peace River Valley artifacts.

On December 11, 2013, First Nations and local area residents will be holding a peaceful rally held outside of the hearing site. Rally participants will walk along the major roads on each side of the Pomeroy Hotel (Alaska Highway and 100th. Avenue). There will be signs of protest towards the Site C Dam and noise makers (drums and horse bells). The rally participants will be asking for passing vehicles to honk their horns in support of saying no to the Site C Dam.

Opening Welcome Event

Date: December 9, 2013
Hours: 9:00am to 11:00am (likely to begin at 10:00am)
Location: Pomeroy Hotel Banquet Room, 11308 Alaska Road, Fort St. John
Speakers: Tribal Chief Liz Logan and T8FN Chiefs will be available to speak to media directly after the opening welcome and will meet with media representatives in the hotel lobby.

Rally Event

Date: December 11, 2013
Hours: 11:30pm to 3:00pm
Location: Chiulli Triangle (west side of Pomeroy Hotel lot, look for canvass hunting tent outside and blue bell tower)
Speakers: At 12:00pm, in front of the canvass hunting tent, the following people will be making speeches to the rally participants and will also be available to speak with media afterwards:
