Opinionated About Dining Survey Names Top European Restaurants

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - June 8, 2009) - In its second annual published dining survey, Opinionated About Dining (OAD) has named the top restaurants in Europe. This year, after limiting the number of restaurants it rated in 2008 to the Top 50 in Europe and North America, OAD has expanded the list to include ratings of over 900 restaurants ranging from fine dining to inexpensive. Links to the full lists for both Europe and North America can be found at the bottom of the page or at

Nineteen European restaurants received the highest rating, "Worth Planning a Trip Around" (98-100 points), with nine restaurants receiving a perfect score of 100 points including six in France: Arpege, Astrance and Pierre Gagnaire, all in Paris; L'Arnsbourg, Baerenthal; Michel Bras, Lagioule; Troisgros in Roanne; the Spanish restaurants El Bulli in Roses and El Poblet in Denia and The Fat Duck in Bray-on-Thames, United Kingdom. Other restaurants in the category were Spain: Mugaritz, Errenteria (99), El Cellar Can Roca, Girona (98), Etxebarri, Axpe-Marzana (98); Italy: Del Pescatore, Canneto Sull'Oglio (98); Le Calandre, Rubano (98); Germany: Amador, Langen (98), Dieter Mueller, Bergisch Gladbach (98); Monaco: Louis XV, Monte Carlo (99) and the Netherlands: Oud Sluis, Sluis (99)

An additional 17 restaurants were rated as Worthy of Special Attention (95-97 points), eleven in France, with six located in Paris including L'Ambroisie (97), Les Ambassadeurs (97), Taillevent (97), Guy Savoy (96), Ledoyen (96), Le Bristol (95) and five in the provinces including Auberge de L'lll, Illhausern, Bernard Loiseau, Salieu (97), Lameloise, Chagny (96), Bistrot d'Eygaliéres "Chez Bru," Eygalieres (95) and Marc Veyrat (restaurant is temporarily closed), Veyrier-du-Lac (95). Spanish restaurants in the category were Azrak, San Sebastian (97), Raco Can Fabes, Sant Celoni (96), La Broche, Madrid (95) and Sant Pao, Sant-Pol de Mar (95), with the Italian restaurant Arnolfo in Col Va di Elsa rounding out the list.

Another 251 restaurants received ratings in other categories including: Highly Recommended (92-94 Points), 44 restaurants; Recommended (90-91 points), 99 restaurants; Top Local Choice (88-89 points), 47 restaurants; Acceptable, (85-87 points), 40 restaurants and Can't Recommend (70-84 points), 21 restaurants. The entire list is available at the link below:

"Given that many people are price sensitive these days, our expansion into covering restaurants in lower price categories came at an opportune time," said publisher Steve Plotnicki. Casual and moderate restaurants in Europe that qualified for a rating of Highly Recommended in our survey included Cal Pep (92) and Comerç 24 (91) in Barcelona, Chez L'Ami Jean (92) and Chez Michel (92) in Paris, Anchor & Hope (91) and Tayyabs (91) in London and Cibreo (92) and Cantinetta Antinori (91) in Florence, Italy.

OAD compiled the results over 12 months with close to 1,600 survey participants contributing to 22,000 ratings. "These restaurants have been selected by opinionated 'destination diners' who plan their travel around dining out and business travelers who combine meetings with meals at interesting restaurants," said Plotnicki. "Most travel abroad at least once a year and consistently dine at the top restaurants in the places where they live."

OAD released its second annual survey to the best dining in the U.S. and Canada in April. The U.S. and Canadian lists can be found at the link below
