Opportunity International Streams Live Video From Fall Microfinance Conference in Washington, D.C.

Registered Viewers 'Tune-in' to Watch Live Streaming Video of Talks on Hunger, Poverty and Emerging Women Entrepreneurs From Global Award-Winning Luminaries and Presenters

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - October 7, 2010) - Opportunity International will offer a live video feed of each of the four plenary sessions to viewers who register online to attend its Fall Microfinance Conference, taking place near Washington, D.C., Oct. 7-9, 2010.

Those who are unable to attend the conference can participate via a special registration page and not miss a moment of the lively keynote presentations about the role that savings-based microfinance plays in eradicating poverty. 

What: Opportunity International's Microfinance Conference

When: The four plenary sessions will take place on Friday, Oct. 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.; 10:30 a.m. to Noon; and 7:45 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.; and on Sat., Oct. 9 from 10:30 a.m. to Noon. More details are available in the conference agenda.

Who: Opportunity International's Fall Microfinance Conference is expected to draw more than 350 attendees, and will include an exciting line up of speakers from the public and private sectors. To date, the confirmed roster of speakers includes:

  • Sheryl WuDunn, the first Asian-American reporter to win a Pulitzer Prize and co-author of "Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide." She is also a senior managing director at Mid-Market Securities, an investment banking boutique serving growth companies in the middle market, as well as president of TripleEdge, a social investing consultancy.
  • Roger Thurow, Senior Fellow for Global Agriculture and Food Policy at The Chicago Council on Global Affairs and former Wall Street Journal reporter; co-author of "Enough: Why the World's Poorest Starve in an Age of Plenty."
  • Tony Hall, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Agencies for Food and Agriculture in Rome, Italy, from 2002 to 2005 and former U.S. Congressman in the third district of Ohio and a leading advocate for hunger relief programs and improving human rights in the world.
  • Maria Otero, Undersecretary of Democracy and Global Affairs for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton coordinates U.S. foreign relations on democracy, human rights, and labor; environment, oceans, and science; population, refugees, and migration; trafficking in persons; and Tibetan issues.
  • Claudia J. Kennedy, Retired Lt. General, U.S. Army and the first woman to achieve the rank of three-star general. She is also a commissioner for the White House Fellows Program.
  • Dale Hanson Bourke, president of The Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) Foundation which supports AIDS research and treatment programs in Africa.
