OpSource Expands Cloud Hosting Options to Support High-Compute Environments

Company Taps VMware's vSphere 4 to Double Memory and CPU for Cloud Servers; Expands Support for Windows and Ubuntu

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - November 17, 2010) - OpSource, Inc., the leader in enterprise cloud and managed hosting, today announced new cloud hosting options that provide the high performance and flexibility required for compute-intensive applications and IT environments. By leveraging VMware vSphere™ 4, the OpSource Cloud™ solution doubles the amount of maximum processing power and memory available per virtual server, ensuring dedicated high-performance for each server instance. With this addition, OpSource Cloud offers an unprecedented level of performance compared to prior versions of the service -- up to 8 virtual CPUs and 64 GB of RAM per virtual server. The company has also further bolstered its cloud hosting solution by adding support for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise (64-bit), Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard (64-bit) and Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS (64-bit). With these additions to an already growing list of cloud operating systems that are currently supported by the company, OpSource is at the forefront in providing enterprises, service providers and software developers with a highly-flexible cloud environment.

"With more than 12 million downloads, Ubuntu has rapidly become the most popular open source Linux distribution based on its stability, community and truly free licensing model," said Neil Levine, VP of Corporate Services, Canonical, the support organization behind Ubuntu. "We're thrilled that OpSource is now supporting Ubuntu on its high-performance cloud hosting platform and we will work closely with the company to make Ubuntu available to the Ubuntu community and large enterprises interested in Open Source cloud implementations."

OpSource Cloud is the first cloud computing solution to bring together the flexibility, availability and community of the public cloud with the security, performance and control the enterprise demands. By leveraging VMware vSphere as the underlying cloud infrastructure, OpSource allows customers to set up virtual server instances called OpSource Cloud Servers. Each Cloud Server can be customized with the amount of processing power and memory. By doubling the maximum number of CPUs and memory per Cloud Server, OpSource enables companies to support high-compute and memory-intensive applications, such as grid computing, statistical analysis, algorithmic trading analysis, image processing, business intelligence, and genome modeling.

"VMware vSphere™ helps improve performance for even the highest-end applications," said Mathew Lodge, senior director, Cloud Services, VMware. "We're pleased to work with OpSource so that Cloud Server customers can benefit from the higher performance, availability, security, and automation needed to deliver IT as a Service to customers."

"More and more of our customers are running processor or memory intensive applications in our cloud for testing and development or production applications," said John Rowell, CTO and co-founder, OpSource. "With these enhancements and our innovative approach to cloud networking and security, the OpSource Cloud reduces the cost per application, making it the ideal platform for mission-critical applications. As more and more enterprises turn to the cloud, we are confident they will build integrated solutions on top of our platforms to address all of their IT requirements."

Long a leader in the Software-as-a-Service space, OpSource helped pioneer enterprise cloud computing with OpSource Cloud.
