Optimal Announces Appointment of CFO

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 11, 2005) - Optimal Geomatics Inc., (TSX VENTURE:OPG) ("Optimal") a geomatics service and software provider to the power line and pipeline utility sector is pleased to announce the appointment of Verne Pecho as its Chief Financial Officer effective 3 October 2005.

Colum Caldwell, Optimal's President & CEO commented, "Verne brings with him over 30 years of diverse and relevant financial and business experience within the wireless, geomatics, and aviation sectors. Verne joins Optimal from MDSI Mobile Data Solutions Inc., a public high tech company also located in the Vancouver area, where he served as Chief Financial Officer for the past 9 years. We are very excited to have Verne join our team and look forward to the many contributions his experience and business acumen will provide the Company."

Mr. Pecho has served as a CFO for both public and private companies, including MacDonald Dettwiler & Associates Ltd., Versacold Corporation, and Okanagan Helicopters Ltd. Mr. Pecho is a Chartered Accountant (CA) with a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Harvard University.

Optimal Geomatics specializes in providing highly accurate geomatic services and software to a customer-base, which is primarily composed of Electric powerline and Gas pipeline utilities. Geomatics is best described as the acquisition, storage, management, retrieval, manipulation, and distribution of spatial or geographically referenced data. Optimal employs a number of acquisition systems, including its proprietary technology, for aerial data acquisition, and applies innovative technology, techniques, and expertise for in-house processing. The Company's unique mapping products and services help utilities reduce cost, improve efficiency, and better-manage their assets by turning raw data into highly valuable geospatial information and engineering reports. Optimal's customers include many of the major utilities across the United States and the United Kingdom.
