Oral Health America and Aspen Dental Team Up to Educate Older Adults About Bridging the Gap Between Oral and Overall Health

Aspen Dental Practices to Offer Discounted Dental Services, Plus a Special Offer for Denture Patients During September

SYRACUSE, NY--(Marketwire - September 9, 2010) -  Oral health is important at any age, yet adults don't always make caring for their mouths a priority. That's why Oral Health America (OHA) and the Aspen Dental network of practices are teaming up on a new campaign targeting adults and seniors, Smile for Life: Bridging the Gap Between Oral and Overall Health.

"Maintaining oral health for life is critical to our overall health and well-being," said Beth Truett, president and CEO of Oral Health America. "As we age, we encounter new issues that affect our mouths, and poor oral health is linked to other significant health problems. We also may face financial issues and transportation challenges that make it harder to commit to getting the care we need. We're pleased to be working with Aspen Dental to remind adults why oral health matters."

"Unfortunately, research shows that many people have put off routine medical care during the current economic recession, a move that can have a negative impact on your health," said Dr. Arwinder Judge, vice president of clinical support at Aspen Dental Management, Inc. "Oral health and overall health are closely linked, so regular visits to the dentist should be just as much of a priority as regular visits to your primary care physician."

As part of its commitment to the program, offices in the Aspen Dental network, which includes more than 250 practices in 21 states, are offering 20 percent off of dental and denture services during the month of September to patients who mention Smile for Life. Aspen Dental practices will also offer 30 percent off screenings with Vizilite Plus®, a blue-light, "glowstick" technology to detect oral cancer, during September.

Advice on how to Smile for Life, including the link between oral and overall health, oral care tips, and special considerations for denture wearers, is available at

The initiative is part of OHA's Fall for Smiles® campaign, which promotes self care, good nutrition, regular dental visits, and tobacco avoidance.
