The Orange County Community Foundation Grants $22.4 Million in FY 2010 -- Up $1 Million Over 2009

NEWPORT BEACH, CA--(Marketwire - December 13, 2010) - The Orange County Community Foundation awarded $22.4 million in grants and scholarships to a wide range of nonprofit organizations and deserving students during the fiscal year ended June 30, 2010, representing the single highest granting year in its 21-year history, the organization announced today.

This $22.4 million includes $655,000 granted this spring from OCCF's ReachOut OC initiative, which supported local nonprofit organizations providing food, shelter, job training, medical care and counseling to vulnerable families struggling in the lingering economic crisis.

"With continued increases in demand for services and declining contributions, 2010 has presented many challenges for the local nonprofit sector. The vision and passion of our donors have provided great momentum for the Orange County Community Foundation to fulfill our mission to encourage and support local philanthropy," said OCCF President Shelley Hoss.

Since inception, OCCF has worked with donors to deliver more than $166 million in grants and scholarships, with $102.1 million granted in the past five years alone.

Added Hoss: "Despite obvious challenges, we remain optimistic about the long-term health of Orange County's nonprofit sector. Leaders of local nonprofits and generous donors have stepped up to meet burgeoning needs with fewer resources. The result is a leaner, stronger and more efficient nonprofit sector, which ultimately benefits our community. We stand prepared to continue to be a valuable resource to donors and nonprofits in 2011."
