Orange County Plastic Surgeon Says a Traditional Facelift Is Still the Best

Dr. Semira Bayati Compares the Benefits of a Traditional Facelift With New, Less Invasive Alternatives, and Explains Why One May Not Be a Substitute for the Other

NEWPORT BEACH, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 19, 2013) - The natural aging process causes skin around the neck, jowls, and face to lose elasticity over time, often resulting in sagging, folds, and wrinkles. Dr. Semira Bayati, an Orange County plastic surgeon, uses the latest facelift techniques at her practice to deliver smoother, firmer, younger-looking skin. By addressing the deeper structures of the face, Dr. Bayati says she is often able to make her patients look 10-15 years younger with results that are long-lasting.

There are several relatively new procedures on the market that claim to be an alternative to the traditional facelift with the additional benefits of being less invasive, more affordable, and able to result in a shorter recovery. In a recent blog post titled "There Is No Substitute For A Traditional Facelift," Dr. Bayati says she believes, for many patients deciding between the different procedures, the traditional facelift may be the best choice. According to Dr. Bayati, "the process a plastic surgeon uses to perform these less invasive procedures differs dramatically from a traditional facelift -- and, consequently, so may the results."

In fact, Dr. Bayati says the major "benefit" of some of these minimally invasive procedures are exactly what makes them less effective for addressing concerns of laxity around the neck, jowls, and lower face. She notes that some procedures use a surgical technique that does not reach the lower levels of the skin, which are the tissues that should be targeted to tighten these areas of the body. Dr. Bayati says the traditional facelift targets these lower-lying tissues directly.

When Dr. Bayati performs her facelift procedures, she also pays attention to the underlying structures of the face and the musculature of the neck to ensure that the initial results meet the patient's expectations and that those results can last 15 years or more. In addition, she highlights that the latest facelift techniques have shortened the recovery process for many of her plastic surgery patients. According to Dr. Bayati, "Though some of these new trends in facial surgery may cost less and have a faster recovery time, if the procedure is not capable of delivering the aesthetic results a patient is setting out to achieve, the 'benefits' they claim to offer may ultimately mean very little."
