Orange County's Public Relations Professionals Honored at 36th Annual PROTOS Awards Ceremony

Orange County Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America Recognizes Top PR Campaigns and Industry Leaders

NEWPORT BEACH, CA--(Marketwire - Jul 12, 2011) - The 36th Annual PROTOS Awards, themed "Call of the PR Sirens" and hosted by the Orange County Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (OC/PRSA), honored top Orange County public relations professionals and organizations for the best public relations campaigns and noteworthy achievements.

On Friday, June 24, more than 100 public relations professionals from around Orange County gathered for the annual awards event at the Balboa Bay Club and Resort in Newport Beach, Calif.

"These people are the best of the best in our business," said Brad Lotterman, OC/PRSA Board President for 2011. "The public relations folks recognized at PROTOS understand that a strategic campaign includes research, planning, implementation and an evaluation component."

Orange County's public relations professionals submitted approximately 100 entries in categories ranging from community outreach and media relations to collateral development and multicultural programs and the first-ever social media category.

More than 50 companies and individuals walked away with an Award of Excellence or PROTOS statuette on Friday evening. A video produced by HAUTEOC and capturing the evening can be found here.

Accepting the highest honor of the year, Etnies earned the "Best in Show," total PR Program award for its entry titled "Etnies and Kevin Smith 'Clerks' Shoe Collaboration Launch."

Taking home multiple awards were Global Results Communications, Idea Hall, PainePR, Porter Novelli, Westbound Communications, Toshiba America Medical Systems & Ketchum and Etnies. A complete list of PROTOS winners and projects can be downloaded here.

OC/PRSA also presented its annual Distinguished Service Award, the Chapter's highest honor for an individual. This year's Distinguished Service Award honored Laarni Dacanay for her commitment to help lead and broaden the OC/PRSA Diversity Committee's reach and reputation as a five-time award winning chapter in the country, and for her leadership role mentoring young public relations professionals on how to break into entertainment public relations. Ms. Dacanay is a diversity communications specialist for NBCUniversal and was recently named the 2011 co-chair of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Diversity Committee.

PRSA Chapters around the country have different names for their awards. PROTOS is specific to the OC/PRSA Chapter.

Chartered in 1963, OC/PRSA serves and educates public relations practitioners of Orange County, Calif. The PROTOS awards began in 1975 to serve as the chapter's annual gala and to honor top members of the Orange County public relations community and their work.
