Ordre des Comptables Agrees du Quebec: 611 Quebec Candidates Pass the 2010 Uniform Evaluation

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Dec. 3, 2010) - The results of the 2010 Uniform Evaluation (UFE) were released this morning. The Ordre des comptables agréés du Québec is pleased to announce that 611 Quebec candidates passed one of the most challenging examinations in the world. The steadily rising number of successful candidates at the UFE testifies to the growing appeal of the chartered accountant profession among young students.

This year, six CA candidates from Quebec earned a place on the UFE Honour Roll of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. The Ordre is very proud of these exceptionally talented future members who will be front-line ambassadors of the profession in the business world.

"I offer my heartfelt congratulations to the 611 candidates who passed the 2010 UFE. Their determination, coupled with the admirable work of the CA training offices and university teaching staff, will ensure a promising future for these candidates to the CA designation. Their skills and the professional attributes that are unique to the CA profession will prove to be major assets for our society as it faces the challenges ahead," said Alain Côté, FCA, ICD.D, Chair of the Ordre.

Daniel McMahon, FCA, President and CEO of the Ordre, presents a positive picture of the future of the profession in Quebec: "The CA profession is more attractive than ever for prospective students. The competitive salaries, international challenges and, above all, the infinite range of opportunities the CA designation has to offer are strong incentives for the new generation of future leaders. This is why the number of Quebec candidates who are registering for the CA program and passing the UFE has been rising steadily in the last few years."

National honour roll

Ryan Abrams is the recipient of the Chartered Accountants of Canada Gold Medal for the highest standing in Quebec on the 2010 Uniform Evaluation: "My career opportunities in Canada and abroad are multiplied because the CA designation is so widely recognized. With this designation, I know I can reach out to the world and take on the challenges of the business community."

The UFE: a rigorous evaluation of competencies

All CAs in Canada are required to pass the UFE to obtain their designation. During this intensive three-day professional evaluation, candidates have to demonstrate that they have acquired the competencies needed to become chartered accountants and to practice public accountancy.

The purpose of the UFE is to thoroughly measure candidates' ability to integrate their knowledge and competencies as well as to analyze, process and effectively communicate information. Subject matter includes assurance, financial performance and information measurement, governance, strategy and risk management, corporate finance, management decision-making and taxation. The exam enables all CA candidates in Quebec to qualify for the practice of public accountancy and to use the CA auditor designation once they have completed their training period.
