The Ordre des Comptables Agrees du Quebec is Pleased That the Quebec Government Has Adopted Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Dec. 11, 2007) - The Ordre des comptables agrees du Quebec welcomes this morning's announcement by Finance Minister Monique Jerome-Forget regarding the adoption of GAAP by the Quebec government. "This announcement is excellent news for Quebecers. The adoption of GAAP ensures greater transparency in the management of public finances and gives a more accurate picture of the province's fiscal position," stated Jean-Pierre Allaire, FCA, Chair of the Ordre.

The Ordre has supported the government since the beginning of its transition to GAAP. Last May, the Ordre was very pleased with the agreement struck between the Auditor General of Quebec and the Department of Finance to create a task force to study the issue. The task force was mandated to ensure a harmonious transition to public sector generally accepted accounting principles. "The work carried out by this group in the last few months helped assess the impact of adopting GAAP and provided the government with accurate information to quickly move forward on improving its financial information for the Quebec population," concluded Daniel McMahon, FCA, President and CEO of the Ordre.

With a membership of close to 17,400 CAs and 1,500 candidates for the practice of the profession, the Ordre des comptables agrees du Quebec carries out its primary mission to protect the public by enforcing the most demanding admission criteria and ethical standards.
