The Ordre des Comptables Agrees du Quebec Submits a Brief to the Ministere des Finances du Quebec on the Legal Reform of Incorporated Associations

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - March 31, 2009) - The Ordre des comptables agrees du Quebec submitted a brief today to the Ministere des Finances du Quebec as part of the reform of the legislation respecting incorporated associations.

Monique Jerome-Forget, Minister of Finance and Minister responsible for Infrastructure, announced the consultation in October and noted that most of these associations are governed by old legislative provisions, some of which date back to 1920.

The Ordre believes that this reform will provide a solid foundation on which to build, so that not-for-profit organizations can meet the needs of their members and be governed by a modern and flexible legal framework, more in line with the reality in which associations currently operate.

"The legislation respecting incorporated associations needs to be modernized and we agree with the goals and objectives of this reform which, from our perspective, involve finding the right balance between the needs of associations, their members and directors and the need to modernize the applicable framework," said Daniel McMahon, CA, FCA, President and CEO of the Ordre.

With a membership of close to 17,500 CAs and 1,860 candidates for the practice of the profession, the Ordre des comptables agrees du Quebec carries out its primary mission to protect the public by enforcing the most demanding admission criteria and the highest professional and ethical standards.

The brief prepared by the Ordre des comptables agrees du Quebec is available on the Ordre's home page at www.ocaq.qc.ca.
