Oregon City Dentists Volunteer at Children's Dental Care Event

OREGON CITY, OR--(Marketwired - July 14, 2015) - Drs. Annalisa and Kyle Smith, owners of Oregon City Family Dentistry, recently volunteered their time with an Oregon-based nonprofit that provides free dental care to underprivileged children.

Tooth Taxi is a program of the Dental Foundation of Oregon that has helped more than 16,000 children throughout Oregon receive the dental care they need. The Tooth Taxi is a fully equipped dental office on wheels that visits schools to treat children and educate them about proper oral health practices.

Drs. Annalisa and Kyle Smith and members of their staff volunteered at the Tooth Taxi on July 2.

“Children cannot seek dental care themselves, so it is very important that they be screened and treated if they don't have other access to care,” Dr. Annalisa Smith said. “Volunteering our time and skills is a way that we can give back to our community.”

Since 2008, when Tooth Taxi was established, the organization and Oregon dentists have donated more than $4.8 million in dental care.

“It's always rewarding to volunteer our time and put a smile on a child’s face,” Dr. Annalisa Smith said. “This is just one of many volunteer opportunities that we will take on this year.”

In addition to Tooth Taxi, Oregon City Family Dentistry will volunteer with Medical Teams International Mobile Dental Van and the Mission of Mercy, both of which donate dental care to uninsured or underinsured Oregon residents.

Oregon City Family Dentistry, 602 Monroe St., is a state-of-the-art facility with a husband-and-wife dental team skilled in general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, implant dentistry, children’s dentistry and sedation dentistry. The office uses dental implants as single-tooth replacement options or to secure bridges and dentures. The practice also has a special kids corner in the office filled with toys and games.

Dr. Kyle Smith worked at Boeing Commercial Aircraft in Everett, Wash., before attending dental school. He earned his undergraduate degree in business finance from Oregon State University and earned his Doctorate of Medical Dentistry from Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry. Dr. Kyle Smith worked with his father, Dr. Fred Smith, before starting a practice with his wife.

Dr. Annalisa Smith attended Portland State University, where she earned her undergraduate degree in foreign language and science. She then earned her dental degree from Oregon Health & Science University. Following dental school, Dr. Annalisa Smith completed her residency at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she trained in oral surgery, restorative dentistry and implant dentistry.
