Oriental Minerals Adds VP Exploration, New Independent Director

VANCOUVER, BC -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 29, 2007 -- Oriental Minerals Inc. (TSX-V: OTL) is pleased to announce that Chris Sennitt has agreed to join the Company full-time as VP of Exploration. Oriental Minerals is also pleased to announce that Mr. Ian Fodie has been appointed to the board of directors and will immediately assume chairmanship of the audit committee.

Mr. Sennitt will continue to spend the majority of his time at the South Korean headquarters in Seoul, with Damien Reynolds noting, "We have valued the contribution Chris has made to the Company as consulting geologist and are extremely pleased that he has agreed to spearhead our extensive exploration program."

Mr. Sennitt has over 26 years experience in the mineral exploration industry, with 5 years direct experience in South Korea. He has worked for 30 companies in most countries in Asia and Australia. Previously, he has served as Vice President, Exploration for Silk Road Resources Ltd (2003-2005), Executive Director for Metallica Minerals Ltd (1999-2000) and Manager-Asian Projects for Indochina Goldfields Ltd (1994-1998). Chris has managed exploration programs for epithermal gold, sediment and intrusive-hosted gold, porphyry copper-gold, lateritic nickel and sediment hosted copper deposits. He is associated with several mineral discoveries, including the Gasado gold project now under option by Oriental Minerals.

Mr. Fodie is a New Zealand Chartered Accountant with a background in Auditing with Deloitte & Touche and more recently as Chief Financial Officer of a number of Canadian publicly-traded companies. Between 2003 and 2004, he also served as chair of the audit committee for a publicly traded company listed on the Toronto and American stock exchanges. Mr. Fodie has recently joined Longview Capital Partners as Chief Financial Officer, overseeing the financial aspects of this global resource group. Longview Capital Partners held 28.4% of the issued and outstanding capital of Oriental Minerals as of December 4, 2006.
