Oscars Losers More Interesting Than Winners According to AddThis Data

Audiences Searched and Shared on Hosts and Runner-Ups in Droves

MCLEAN, VA--(Marketwire - February 28, 2011) - Oscar viewers were more interested in the show's hosts and runner-ups than the actual winners last night, according to Clearspring, provider of the #1 content sharing platform AddThis. With a footprint of more than 8MM web sites and 1B unique users monthly, Clearspring analyzed data from AddThis to discover what really interested Oscar viewers before and during the broadcast.

Among the most interesting findings:

  • Black Swan may have lost the big prize, but was far and away the winner when it came to audience interest. Viewers searched and shared information on the movie and leading lady, Natalie Portman, more than any other nominee over the last 5 days and during the ceremony.
  • The King's Speech won Oscar's nod, but the movie and Colin Firth earned their highest marks for interest only upon winning. Host and nominee James Franco had substantially more audience interest than Firth throughout the show.
  • The Social Network earned the highest marks from viewers who shared content during the broadcast, with Jesse Eisenberg also earning big audience sharing interest during the ceremony.
  • However, two of the biggest draws were not even nominated. Charlie Sheen, who wasn't even in the house, was the highest searched actor during the show, beating all other audience favorites combined except for host Anne Hathaway, who was the most highly searched actress, though was not nominated herself.
