Oshawa Dairy Farm Invites Public and Media to Join "Open Farms Day" Saturday June 27th

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 26, 2015) - In celebration of Dairy Farmers of Ontario's ("DFO") 50th Anniversary, farms across the province will participate in "Open Farms Day", a unique opportunity for the public and media to learn about Ontario's agricultural industry. More than a dozen dairy farms will participate on June 27th by inviting people to take a glimpse into farm life.

Among the dairy farms involved is Loa-De-Mede Farms Ltd. owned by The Werry Family Farm in Oshawa.

The Werry Family Farm will be hosting a full day event for Open Farms Day which will include a guided tour through their brand new dairy facility complete with robots to milk the cows and a barn design focused on cow comfort. The event will also feature milking demonstrations, manure management, a talking cow, sandbox, games, educational booths, dairy samples and much more.

"It is going to be a truly unique look inside farm life and an opportunity for us to share with the public what we do every day and to learn where your food comes home. Perhaps most importantly, to get a look at our farmers' hard work and dedication to top quality products and services," said Heather Werry owner of Loa-De-Mede Farms Ltd.

Open Farms Day is a provincially coordinated effort that seeks to raise awareness of the critical and growing role that the agricultural sector plays in the Ontario economy. Each year, more dairy farms recognize the importance of sharing this role with the communities that surround us.

"DFO is grateful to the Werry Family and to all participating dairy farmers across Ontario who opened up their doors and are helping to enhance public awareness of the true importance and complexity of this industry," said Ralph Dietrich, Dairy Farmers of Ontario Board Chair.

Loa-De-Mede Farms Ltd. is located in Oshawa, Ontario. Transportation to the event runs from Legends Centre, 1661 Harmony Rd N, Oshawa to Loa-De-Mede Farm. A full list of all other participating dairy farms can be found at www.milk.org.

Media are invited to join and parking will be made available
