Oshawa Starts Show Strength in November

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 8, 2011) - Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) released new home construction figures for the Oshawa CMA (Census Metropolitan Area) today. Oshawa's total new home starts in November 2011, at 232 units, were virtually at par with last year's numbers. The strength in new residential construction this month came from the single-detached sector, which recorded the highest number of starts in over four years.

"Throughout 2011 we have seen visible shifts in the geographies where new home construction took place. This past month, Clarington and Pickering reached a very high number of starts," said Inna Breidburg, Market Analyst with CMHC's Ontario Business Centre.

As Canada's national housing agency, CMHC draws on more than 65 years of experience to help Canadians access a variety of high quality, environmentally sustainable and affordable housing solutions. CMHC also provides reliable, impartial and up-to-date housing market reports, analysis and knowledge to support and assist consumers and the housing industry in making informed decisions.
