OSSTF/FEESO Celebrates World Teachers' Day on October 5

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 3, 2013) - October 5, 2013 is World Teachers' Day. This year, we celebrate teachers who educate our students to be better global citizens and to respect cultural diversity.

Ontario is home to citizens from around the world and that makes diversity one of the greatest strengths of Ontario's public schools. Students are exposed to all the cultures that make Canada such a unique and vibrant place to live. And with the encouragement of their teachers and school support staff, students learn the importance of understanding, embracing diversity and working together. It's good for Ontario. It's good for our future.

"World Teachers' Day is an opportunity to recognize those efforts of educators in our communities and around the world in creating a better future for all students. We invite all Ontarians to join us in promoting and celebrating teachers and support staff for their commitment to helping students achieve their goals," commented Paul Elliott, President of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF/FEESO).

OSSTF/FEESO, founded in 1919, has 60,000 members across Ontario. They include public high school teachers, occasional teachers, educational assistants, continuing education teachers and instructors, early childhood educators, psychologists, secretaries, speech-language pathologists, social workers, plant support personnel, university support staff, and many others in education.
