OSSTF/FEESO Members Vote in Favour of Changes to Imposed Working Conditions

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 18, 2013) - Teacher and Support Staff members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF/FEESO) have voted 84% in favour of a recently negotiated agreement with the Ontario government. The agreement amended components of the problematic working conditions imposed by Bill 115. The province-wide membership vote took place from April 12-18.

"Our members have exercised their democratic rights within our Federation to vote on the changes to the working conditions that were imposed on us by the Ontario government in January and they have voted to endorse those changes," said Ken Coran, President of OSSTF/FEESO.

"This agreement respects the fiscal parameters defined by the Ontario government but also respects creative solutions to problematic issues identified by our members. In addition, the government has committed to working collaboratively to ensure a fair, transparent and democratic process is in place for the next round of collective bargaining," Coran concluded.

OSSTF/FEESO, founded in 1919, has 60,000 members across Ontario. They include public high school teachers, occasional teachers, educational assistants, continuing education teachers and instructors, early childhood educators, psychologists, secretaries, speech-language pathologists, social workers, plant support personnel, university support staff, and many others in education.
