OSSTF/FEESO Thanks CAW President Ken Lewenza for His Contributions to Workers' Rights


TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Aug. 9, 2013) - The Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF/FEESO) offers its congratulations to the President of the Canadian Auto Workers union (CAW) Ken Lewenza for his work on behalf of all workers in Canada.

"On behalf of the members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation, I want to thank Ken Lewenza for his leadership and many contributions to the labour movement," said OSSTF/FEESO President Paul Elliott.

Lewenza announced yesterday that he will not be seeking the leadership of the newly combined union called Unifor, which is a merger of the CAW and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada (CEP).

"Ken Lewenza has been a positive and outspoken representative for all workers in Canada," continued Elliott. "He has left a legacy of standing up for workers' rights and we have all benefitted from his efforts. OSSTF/FEESO wishes Ken well in his future endeavors."

OSSTF/FEESO, founded in 1919, has 60,000 members across Ontario. They include public high school teachers, occasional teachers, educational assistants, continuing education teachers and instructors, early childhood educators, psychologists, secretaries, speech-language pathologists, social workers, plant support personnel, university support staff, and many others in education.
