Ottawa Businesswoman Jamilah Taib Murray, Sakto Corporation, Contributes $50,000 to Support Future Female Leaders via Bootcamp For Brains of G(irls)20

OTTAWA, ON --(Marketwired - April 12, 2016) - Jamilah Taib Murray, Chair of Ottawa-based property development company Sakto Corporation, contributes $50,000 to support Bootcamp For Brains, a one-week course designed to teach 15 to 17-year-old girls leadership skills. This initiative is led by G(irls)20, a Canadian-based, global organization that advances female participation and leadership by placing girls and women at the center of the G20 economic decision-making process.

"After having met Jamilah at last year's Bootcamp For Brains fundraiser in Ottawa, her authentic passion to ensure future generations of young women are empowered and educated was immediately apparent," G(irls)20 Founder and CEO Farah Mohamed said. "We are thrilled to be making our partnership with Jamilah and Sakto Corporation official and look forward to working together to change the face of female leadership in Canada."

Eighty-three percent of Canadian women indicated that having access to role models or mentors would be important to their success, according to Status of Women Canada, a federal government organization that promotes women's equality. The upcoming Bootcamp For Brains workshop will give young women the opportunity to engage with a dynamic group of strong female leaders, including Jamilah.

"Strong role models and mentors are what made me into the person I am today," Jamilah Taib Murray, Chair of Sakto Corporation, said. "Investing in the education and leadership skills of young women is one of the most important missions we have as a society. I firmly believe that women's empowerment will create a better future for generations to come, that is why I am delighted to be part of G(irls)20's great initiative, Bootcamp For Brains."

Ashbury College in Ottawa, Ontario will be home to the first ever Bootcamp For Brains session. The session will present practical and relatable scenarios allowing young women participants to develop invaluable skills in communications, digital literacy, financial preparedness, civic responsibility, and globalization, as well as celebrate Canada Day in our nation's capital. Bootcamp For Brains content will be created and delivered through a variety of qualified industry experts, thanks to our partnerships with remarkable organizations such as Royal Bank of Canada, Norton Rose Fulbright, and Agrium

Bootcamp For Brains will establish a pipeline of civically-minded young female leaders who will have the opportunity to be trained and placed on community boards across Canada via Girls On Boards. Girls On Boards provides young women with meaningful learning opportunities and access to respected female leaders while increasing the capacity of community boards across the country to be more inclusive and effective.
