Ottawa Senators Alumni to Partner With Boys & Girls Club

First annual hockey tournament to raise funds for Camp Smitty

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 3, 2006) - The Ottawa Senators Alumni announced today that they will be hosting the first annual Ottawa Senators Alumni charity hockey tournament from Nov. 17 to 19. The 24-team tournament will take place at the Bell Sensplex and will raise money for the Boys & Girls Club's Camp Smitty. The event marks the premiere initiative in a partnership between the Ottawa Senators Alumni and the Boys & Girls Club that will see the Senators Alumni donate $500,000 towards Camp Smitty.

The three-day hockey event will be highlighted by its special Hall of Fame Reception on Friday, Nov. 17. The guests of honour will be the re-united French Connection Line of Gilbert Perrault, René Robert and Richard Martin, while Marcel Dionne, the National Hockey League's fourth most prolific scorer in history with 731 goals, will also be in attendance. All players who participate in the charity hockey tournament will also be attending the Senators game on Nov. 18 against the Buffalo Sabres.

"The Ottawa Senators Alumni is committed to its role the Ottawa community," said Brad Marsh, Senators alumni president. "We're excited to use this event as a major fundraiser to support the much-needed rejuvenation of Camp Smitty, and are pleased to honour fellow NHL and Senators alumnus Brian Smith."

Camp Smitty, operated by the Boys & Girls Club, is a non-profit residential camp offering a beautiful lakefront setting, fantastic staff and dynamic programs for deserving campers ages eight to 15.

"The Boys & Girls Club is honoured to be part of this initiative by the Ottawa Senators Alumni," said Bill Colby, Boys & Girls Club president. "We are extremely pleased our first renovation project has already begun and we will see results for the summer of 2007."

The Ottawa Senators Alumni has more than 45 active members and has raised over $1.3 million since its inception in 1992. Recently, the Senators Alumni donated $150,000 to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario and $200,000 to the Ottawa Hospital.
