Ottawa Senators Launch Hockey Night in Barbados Contest

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 30, 2006) - The Ottawa Senators today launched a unique video contest in search of the No. 1 Sens fan. The winner will be crowned the Sens Army Captain and receive a special Hockey Night in Barbados dream vacation.

"Eugene Melnyk's ownership of the Senators has helped many of our fans form a special connection to Barbados," said Cyril Leeder, chief operating officer of the Senators and Scotiabank Place. "Eugene continues to reinforce that Ottawa has the greatest fans in the NHL, and we wanted to build off that by giving our fans a chance to have some fun, express their creativity and share their love of hockey."

The contest will be launched at tonight's game against the Florida Panthers and will run to Friday, Dec. 22. Fans will be invited to create an entertaining 60-second video clip showcasing their Sens spirit around the theme of Hockey Night in Barbados.

"We are very fortunate to have such a great ambassador of Barbados in Eugene Melnyk," said Glyne Murray, the Barbados High Commissioner to Canada. "It's such a tremendous gesture to have Eugene and the Ottawa Senators create a variety of promotional initiatives, like this contest, that help to promote the island of Barbados here in the nation's capital."

"I've had the pleasure of meeting so many Senators fans who have made the trip to visit Barbados to cheer on our Sens while watching the game on the big screen at Bert's," said Senators owner Melnyk. "This contest is all about showcasing and celebrating the passion of our fans. We want this to be a fun and entertaining contest that the whole city can embrace."

Throughout the contest period, selected video entries will be posted on the club's website Nine semi-finalists will be selected by a panel of judges featuring Melnyk; Bert Inniss, founder of Bert's in Barbados, and Sandy Sharkey, co-host on 93.9 BOB FM's The Morning After. The semi-finalists will receive the unique chance to work with the Senators organization to develop a convincing video profile on why they should be crowned as Sens Army Captain.

All semi-finalists' videos will be featured on the Scotiabank Place videoboard during one of the team's home games. Fans will have the opportunity to vote online at the club's website or by text message. The grand-prize winner will be crowned Sens Army Captain on Barbados Night at Scotiabank Place, which is slated for Wednesday, Feb. 28, when the Senators host last year's Stanley Cup champions, the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Sens Army Captain will win a trip for two to Barbados from March 7 to 11, 2007, including airfare and hotel accommodation for four nights. On Thursday, March 8, the Sens Army Captain will join Melnyk and Inniss at Bert's to cheer on the Sens in the Battle of Ontario as they take on the Toronto Maple Leafs.
