Our Place Society Announces New Executive Director

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Feb. 7, 2012) - Our Place Society Board Chair, Shannon Renault, is pleased to announce that Don Evans is the successful candidate in a recent search for a new Executive Director. Evans will assume the position effective March 1, 2012.

Mr. Evans has served in several capacities over the past three years with First United Church in Vancouver, most recently as Co-Executive Director. Other positions held with First United included Director of Administration, Director of Finance and Fund Development and Director of Resource Development. Also, for a two-year period ending in 2000, he was a front line worker with the same organization, providing a range of services for people with no fixed address in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside community.

Before joining First United, he served as Vice President, Corporate Communications with two firms - Chemokine Therapeutics Corp and, prior to that, WEX Pharmaceuticals Inc., both in Vancouver following a decade as an investment advisor and small business owner in both BC and Alberta.

His community volunteerism includes having served as a Board Member and member of the Communications Committee of St. Andrew's Wesley United Church, Co-Chair of End Homelessness Now, Vice Chair of the Dugout Drop-In Centre, and Member of the Metro Vancouver Regional Steering Committee on Homelessness.

Our Place Society is a community centre serving the poor, disabled, and homeless of Greater Victoria. At its location on Pandora Avenue it serves approximately 1,500 meals per day. It offers a place for people to shower, get clean clothing, participate in community programming, as well as gather and share a story with friends in a place of belonging. Our Place has forty-five transitional housing units for the most marginalized in our region.
