Outlook Is Bright for 2011 Tech Industry Hires, According to ITA Survey

Over Half of Respondents Anticipate Larger Staffing Needs Going Forward

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - January 25, 2011) - The Illinois Technology Association (ITA) 5th Annual Salary Survey found just over half of the 135+ responding companies anticipate the need for a larger staff in 2011, with less than 4% projecting smaller requirements. Salaries are expected to increase nominally, 3%, for the rank and file positions, but remain relatively flat for executives.

"Illinois technology businesses continue to lead the recovery of our economy," said Fred Hoch, President, ITA. "The demand for technology experts and efficiency-producing products across vertical industries remains high, with the recession forcing industry leaders to gain efficiency through the expanded use of technology."

The 2010 ITA Salary Survey features expanded positions, in response to requests from member-companies looking for more detail. For technology staff positions, as an example, a total of 29 titles were included in 2010, with 11 in 2009. A total of 93 positions were included in 2010 in comparison to 37 in 2009.

Commercial and operations talent, including Marketing, Customer Support, Human Resources, and Accounting, are included for the first time in the 2010 survey. Insight into these areas highlights the need for talent across functional areas as technology companies continue to grow.

Special thanks to our partners, Systat and Meta Brown. Systat provided the statistical analysis software for our work in analyzing and representing the results. Meta Brown provided her expertise and time to perform the analysis of the data. The survey design was guided by the ITA's Strategic Intelligence Committee.

Lastly we would like to thank all of the 137 companies who participated in the survey.
