Outstanding Educators Honoured by the Catholic Principals' Council of Ontario

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 8, 2011) - The Catholic Principals' Council of Ontario (CPCO) will recognize the recipients of its annual awards in Toronto during CPCO's annual gala dinner. Regional Principal of the Year awards will be presented to the following members: Robert Campbell, Brant Haldimand Norfolk CDSB; Andre Potvin, Ottawa CSB; Matt McCann, Simcoe Muskoka CDSB; Lise Curtis, Superior North CDSB; Nadia Marson, Thunder Bay CDSB; and Mark Godin, Waterloo CDSB. Each of these individuals has worked tirelessly on behalf of Catholic education, not only in their school communities but throughout their school boards. They have made every effort to champion the work and successes experienced by the children in their care and the staffs they work with on a daily bases.

This year the Catholic Principals' Council of Ontario is pleased to honour the three Catholic curriculum cooperatives in Ontario as the recipients of the FatherJohn Redmond Memorial Award 2011. The Catholic Curriculum Corporation, the Eastern Ontario Catholic Curriculum Cooperative and the Northern Ontario Catholic Curriculum Cooperative have made outstanding contributions to Catholic education through the development of resources that support and enhance Catholic curriculum in Ontario's publicly-funded Catholic school system.

Linda Frost, a retired principal with the Durham Catholic District School Board is the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award for her many contributions to the membership of the Catholic Principals' Council of Ontario, locally and provincially. Her positive and professional approach in dealing with all stakeholders, colleagues, senior administrators, parents and students served as a model for other administrators. Linda served on the CPCO executive as an elementary councillor from 2002 to 2004 and as treasurer from 2004 to 2007.

Paul Lacalamita, principal of Resurrection Catholic Secondary School in Kitchener, Ontario, will be honoured with the Past-president's Award for his years of service on the provincial executive. Paul served as CPCO president from July 2009 to June 2010. He believes that CPCO has a very important role to play in the growth and success of Catholic schools in this province; providing service to and advocacy for its 2100 members. Principals and vice-principals have a sacred privilege and responsibility to help ensure stability in Ontario's publicly-funded Catholic schools.
