TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 8, 2014) - Canadian television network OUTtv announced today that they have picked up a second season of the groundbreaking dramatic mini-series "Sex & Violence". The series stars Gemini Award winners Jennie Raymond and Jackie Torrens and features Academy Award® winner Olympia Dukakis. Thom Fitzgerald (Cloudburst) is set to write and direct - his business partner Doug Pettigrew of Halifax's Emotion Pictures will handle production.
Sex & Violence follows the lives of Constable Maria Roach (Raymond) and social worker Drucie MacKay (Torrens) with Dukakis returning as Alex Mandalakis, the fearless and aggressive victim's advocate. "Alex's desire to set the world right for victims of violence will be as passionate as ever," Dukakis promises. "In the new season, she has even more motivation, and I'm looking forward to exploring that with Thom." Michael McPhee and Pasha Ebrahimi will reprise their roles as Constable Doug Downey and Doctor Padraig O'Carroll.
"Sex & Violence is the best performing original drama we have ever had on OUTtv," said OUTtv COO Brad Danks. "We are thrilled to be moving forward on a second season with Thom, Doug and, of course, Olympia." Writer-director Thom Fitzgerald is ready and eager to begin season two. "I'm happy to be working with OUTtv on a show that feels so unique," said Fitzgerald.
The gritty, realistic drama follows the lives of professionals who work in the aftermath of domestic violence. The show chronicles their struggles to maintain healthy, intimate personal relationships while working daily with people caught in violent and dysfunctional lives.
Film and Creative Industries Nova Scotia and the Eastlink TV Independent Production Fund also financed Sex & Violence. OUTtv will premiere the series early in 2015.
