Over 200 PSB Academy Students From 17 Nationalities Mark Singapore's 51st With Flag-Raising Ceremony

SINGAPORE--(Marketwired - Aug 5, 2016) - More than 200 Singaporean and foreign students and over 100 employees were decked in red and white to mark Singapore's 51st birthday at PSB Academy's Delta campus. The national day observance was held at the campus' basketball court this morning, and entailed a traditional flag-raising ceremony and the singing of Majulah Singapura. The event ended with the release of more than 200 red and white balloons to symbolise "taking flight into a new tomorrow."

The event is part of a series of initiatives in August, themed "Celebrating today's dreams and tomorrow's rainbows." organised by PSB Academy and its industry partners such as Science Centre Singapore, and Singapore GP, organiser of the Singapore Formula 1 Night Race.

The Science of Tomorrow with Professor Brian Cox

In partnership with Science Centre Singapore, more than 70 students from PSB Academy's schools of Life and Physical Sciences as well as Engineering and Technology were given a chance to attend a talk by world-renowned physicist and BBC radio programme host Brian Cox on 2 August, to be inspired about the role of science and technology in the future of our modern world.

"Pursing rainbows" National Day Parade television commercial

As Singapore breaks ground into its next 50 years, PSB Academy will be commemorating the nation's 51st birthday with a tribute video that will be aired in conjunction with the live screenings of the National Day Parade (NDP) on Mediacorp TV's channel 5, channel 8, channel U, OKTO and Vasantham.

Themed "Pursuing rainbows," the 30-second tribute video traces the challenges faced by Singapore, when it was on the verge of independence in 1964. Some of these struggles include the challenges in job creation and survival. The video concludes with a call to the broader community to "pledge to enable Singaporeans to follow their dreams and pursue their rainbows" -- in reference to PSB Academy's mission of providing access to quality higher education to deserving Singaporeans.

Future of Engineering at PSB Academy

In line with the theme from this year's NDP "Building the Singapore of Tomorrow," PSB Academy will be partnering with Singapore GP, organiser of the Singapore Formula 1 (F1) Night Race to bring the F1experience to its Delta campus on 11 August to give aspiring students a better understanding of the engineering and workflow behind an F1 race. There will be 4 racing simulators on campus for students and the public to immerse themselves in the race experience.

The one-day initiative will consist of laboratory tours as well as talks by Daniele Guainazzi, Senior Director of Operations Excellence at DHL, a PSB Academy industry partner, and by Dr Joshua Fan, Academic director for the Sydney Business School of the University of Wollongong Australia. Daniele and Joshua will talk about "Embracing and enforcing the right quality of culture in APAC" and "Racing forward with workflow optimisation" respectively.
